Meet the Bears

Emma Clayton - CEO & Founder

I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 22 years across sales, marketing and communications, and have been part of some of the largest blockbuster product launches over the years.

I have a huge passion for the NHS which I am told is infectious and as a result have been instrumental and a leader for some world class medical education programmes, that not only improve lives but improve efficiencies and value to the NHS.

I am a bit of a geek around behavioural change, behavioural economics and the neurosciences behind how we communicate and am constantly learning and bringing new ideas into the team and to our clients on future communication strategies.

I have unrelenting high standards and quality is at the heart of everything that I have built Grey Bear around. When we say we deliver the best service we have operationalised the business to deliver this. Over the years this has been evidenced by some of the awards I have won including Marketing Manager of the Year (Pharma Times), numerous Rx Club Awards, and a digital award for innovation in healthcare. Its always awkward talking about your successes but quality really is everything we do.

My communications work has led me to become an Ambassador for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes, a service reviewer for NHS England, an an expert patient for Women’s Health.

As a strong leader I have also championed improved female leadership within the NHS through my social network “Women in Health”, a network of senior leaders within the NHS.

When I am not working you can find me moonlighting as a taxi driver for my 11 year old daughter.

If I were a bear, I would be Winnie the Pooh who famously said “You’re braver than you believe, and stronger and smarter than you think.”

Hayley Exon - Managing Director

I’ve spent the last 15 years in Marketing, working across B2B, B2C and Internal Comms in lots of different industries.

My experience working in both client and agency environments means that I have a good understanding of how clients work and why. I love the creative, challenging and quick pace of agency life – it gives me the variation that I crave and allows me to work with lots of different people to deliver amazing solutions. I’m a great communicator and thrive establishing solid relationships to get to the core of what my clients are wanting to achieve and see beyond that with solutions that complement marketing strategy. I’m passionate in leading teams in a highly organised flow, so that we can be the best that we can be delivering amazing projects.  

Much of my career to date has also featured events as part of marketing strategy, so I also have the understanding of how these play an important part of the mix – and changing times means more virtual events which works with my experience in the digital world.    

I’m passionate about driving behaviour change, a key part of the remit here at Grey Bear. Coming up with solutions for change has been instrumental in many of the campaigns I’ve lead and I’ve also focused a lot on employee engagement through reward & recognition to encompass core values of organisations. 

I’m a coastal girl, and my heart is by the sea which is why I love living in Brighton. I swim a lot, and I really enjoy a rum with friends in one of the many really cool venues we have here in the city. I also have two young children who truly amaze and inspire me each day.

Jasmine Ricketts - Digital Marketing Executive

I am a diligent, resourceful, multiskilled, Digital Marketer with a proven history of working for global and start-up businesses within the Retail, MarTech and Financial Services industry, with both B2B and B2C knowledge.

I have a strong variety of industry knowledge including: social media marketing, content marketing, project management, public relations, strategic communications and creative design.

I pride myself on my interpersonal skills and versatility as I am able to work and contribute as part of a team as well as functioning efficiently working remotely.

I have the ability to use a series of tools and technology to help businesses with their marketing presence including, Adobe, Canva, WordPress and Hootsuite, alongside a number of customer relationship management platforms.

Previously, I have managed social media platforms for Smeg UK, Adestra Ltd and Oodle Car Finance to help them successfully grow their channels, engaging with their desired audience type, documenting statistics and measuring success.

If I was a bear, I would be Baloo bear from the Jungle Book as I consider myself pragmatic, optimistic and wise beyond my years!

Red Barrington - Digital Marketing Manager

I’m a digital marketer with over 18 years of experience leading digital strategy and implementation of enterprise-level projects. I support the execution of bespoke digital initiatives to support client acquisition, conversion and retention programmes.

As a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, I have developed and delivered training solutions across a variety of digital marketing disciplines.

I believe it’s critical for any digital initiative, whether across social media, content, display advertising or SEO, to align with a brand’s wider marketing strategy. I love to get to the heart of a client’s digital challenges and deliver a strategy that is effective for their needs – ensuing only the most relevant digital channels are used.

Outside of work you can find me in the kitchen knocking up a mean Thai Massaman Curry and partaking in the odd gin tasting. I also like to let loose at my local boxing club.

If I were a bear I’d be Paddington Bear as I like to keep things under my hat in case of emergencies!

Kate Habberley - PR & Communications Manager

Kate has enjoyed working in integrated communications, public relations and marketing agencies for the majority of her career to date.

With a proven record of communicating with impact and empathy, her breadth of experience covers marketing communications, internal communications, media relations, content marketing and copy writing.
Kate is highly enthusiastic about all forms of communication but especially loves producing engaging content for clients’ customers and employees, and delivering internal communications with a strong focus on employee engagement.

Kerensa - Events Manager

Kerensa has gained 20 years’ experience as an Event Manager working for a wide range of clients including financial organisations and cultural institutions within arts and fashion.

In her previous role of 10 years, Kerensa worked as a Vice President within Corporate Events at Credit Suisse Investment Bank. She managed all aspects of complex global events from idea generation through to successful delivery. Kerensa has experience working on a wide range of projects including global board meetings, investor conferences, client hospitality, sponsorship events and ‘money can’t buy’ experiences for UHNW clients.

Kerensa is highly professional and prides herself on her unflappable nature. She excels at logistics and her attention to detail ensures that events go smoothly from conception to completion. During her career she has successfully dealt with many challenging situations however, she is also well aware that no two events are ever the same.

Lucy Webster - Senior Designer

Lucy has over 20 years’ design experience working with both large corporate organisations and smaller groups and clubs. She’s worked on an incredibly diverse range of projects, working alone, as part of a team and, for Johnson & Johnson and Bristol Myers-Squibb, managing a large design team.

She’s worked on everything from comms and collateral, through to branding and exhibitions, bringing drive, passion, innovation and love of creative design to every single project. She’s lead and supported marketing objectives, and has a thorough appreciation of how safeguarding a brand and its vision is fundamental to its continued growth.

She’s lucky enough to think of design as a hobby as much as a job, so no matter what size your design challenge, you can look forward to a warm and friendly approach – and a result that surpasses all of your expectations.

Jennifer Bolan - Designer

I’m a graphic and web designer with 22 years experience. My specialty is in design and communication – I love interpreting a brief and delivering effective solutions that make a real difference to a client brand.

I manage production schedules that produce artwork in a precise manner, while ensuring that all work is delivered on time and according to set briefs and guidelines.

Over the course of my career I’ve worked within the pharmaceutical sector including Teva Pharmaceuticals, Novartis, Ferring, GSK and Ceva Santé Animale.

I always ensure that your vision is told in an eye catching, memorable and professional way and one that adds gravitas. My best day is when I produce something unique and powerful that tells a story, conveys ideas and communicates information.

Outside of work you’ll find me out walking in the countryside.

If I was a bear I would be a teddy bear because I love cuddles with my two daughters.

Meg Small - P.A to Emma Clayton

I have worked in a number of roles within Marketing and Administration, in a range of sectors. For the last 2 years, I’ve been working in roles supporting businesses with their Admin and Marketing to help them free up time to allow them to focus on their core activities.

Prior to running my own business, I worked within a Global Marketing team creating and implementing national marketing campaigns. I have experience of copywriting for a range of different uses, including B2B and B2C as well as implementing Email Marketing strategies. I have also been fortunate to have planned and executed brand presence at both National and Global exhibitions for both trade and consumer shows.

I also hold a CIM Certificate in Digital Marketing, which has given me lots of additional strategies and theories to support my marketing activities.

I absolutely love being organised and creative so working as a PA is a perfect fit! I pride myself on my high levels of efficiency and organisation- I especially love a to-do list!

When I’m not working you’ll find me spending time by the Devon Coast with my family and my fluffy German Shepherd, Bear!!

If I were a Bear, I’d be a Sloth Bear, like Baloo out of The Jungle Book. He’s a fun character who is not afraid to be silly.

Bear- Chief Barketing Officer

Not quite Grey but definitely the Bear of the company, our office dog appropriately named “Bear” lends a helping hand to maintain calm in the office.

Happy to greet customers with a friendly paw Bear is also known to pinch the odd office pen or two.

Amanda Barrell - Senior Creative Writer

Amanda works as a health and medical education journalist, editor and copywriter. She has worked on projects for pharma, charities and agencies, and has written extensively for patients, healthcare professionals and the general public. Amanda is passionate about patients and improving health systems.

Caroline Kelly - Compliance Director

Caroline has worked in the pharmaceutical industry since 2003, holding a number of commercial, Medical and Compliance leadership roles with small, medium and large sized pharmaceutical companies.  She has covered a spectrum of prescription medicines from mega brands to products for rare and orphan diseases.

Caroline has a real passion for the pharmaceutical industry, and is driven to secure the best for patients, healthcare professionals and the public.  She has championed companies’ commitment to compliance by representing companies at the EFPIA Compliance Committee, participating in working groups run by the ABPI, PMCPA and IPHA, has frequently led syndicate groups for the PMCPA, and has been a member of the IPHA Code Council for over 3 years.

Academically, Caroline holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Molecular & Cellular Biology, a nursing diploma in asthma, and an M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Medicine.
